• Loyce Makamson Story

Loyce Makamson was Garry's father who helped him get his start in farming. Loyce farmed for approximately 35 years before leaving his land to his children after his passing.

History of Garry Makamson Farms

Garry Makamson started farming in 1974. He got his start under his father, Loyce Makamson. Garry farmed under his father for a few years until he learned the ropes of farming. In 1977, he decided he was ready to farm "on his own". He rented 900 acres on his own while farming a total of 1,350 acres. In 1980, he started renting an additional 250 acres that he still farms today. In 1982, he purchased his first official piece of land which is now known as "Shell Bluff". After 4 years of farming as Garry Makamson, Garry decided to change his farm name to Garry Makamson Farms due to USDA farm regulations. To date, Garry Makamson Farms owns about 20% of the land he farms. In 2014 Garry Makmason Farms made a expansion when we started farming with Jim Kline. Jim and Garry met through an outside investor. We have been fortunate to have made a life and career from farming. Garry continues to run the day to day operations as he did many years ago. Garry is constantly adapting to the ever-changing business of farming which requires him to spend most of his time in the office.
